The lamp post always makes me think about Narnia. 
The deer that are beginning to hang out in the yard again aren’t speaking yet, and so far the bird bath and the creatures who enjoy it are completely tame, even though every year I spend a few hours pulling out the thistles they plant. I’ve heard there’s a fox den farther down in the meadow, though, so who knows what we can expect.
Over the years that we’ve lived here (33 next month), we’ve gradually made the yard more friendly to both the creatures we enjoy and those we’d rather stay away. I like that. We watch the bird channel every morning from the kitchen window and see whistle pigs from the front porch summer evenings.
My bucket list kind-of, sort-of, sometimes but not really includes chickens. Goats. Bees. Maybe at some point I’ll want to make the commitment…
But not today.
